I had heard pretty good things about this Xbox 360 game over the last year or so but never got around to playing it. Amazon was having a sale on it for $9 so I figured I’d pick it up. Even if the game was terrible I’d only be out $9 right?
It actually was pretty good.
The story revolves around this guy named Monkey who while escaping a slave ship in the future meets up with a girl named Trip who needs his help in finding her family. She puts this headband on him that if he strays to far from her or she dies, he dies as well. The game plays as a 3rd person platformer and finds you fighting a lot of mechs (the enemies of the time). Monkey has access to a staff that allows him to shoot stun and plasma blasts. He uses that weapon as his primary and only fighting tool. There’s a lot of jumping and climbing in the game as well as few puzzles. However there were a few times where I couldn’t determine what I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go. Some games after a few minutes of dawdling point you in the right direction, this one doesn’t.
Great graphics and scenery
Engaging story and characters
Can get a bit repetitive after a while with combat and climbing
Clarity in direction is sometimes a problem
It was a pretty good game overall and ended up finishing it on normal difficulty in around 9 hours. There is some DLC which involves a character called Pigsy you meet in your journey but didn’t feel engaged enough to buy or play it. It’s worth a rent and most people will probably refer to this as a diamond in the rough.
